Just received one of these scratchies in our local (Perth Australia) newspaper. First stop was google and the first hit was this page.
Just as I suspected, another friggin scam.
This sort of stuff should be made illegal. By the way thanks for the email addresses of the organisers. I’d like a minute or two with these scumbags.
Great site. Thanks for the info. I’m pretty cynical about anything to win a prize that involves SMS. However my children and many of my friends often believe that these “scam” competitions will make them a winner. I believe that the industry needs to be regulated by the government to ensure that entry into an SMS subscrption service is explicity agreed and not a byproduct of entering a competition or downloading a ringtone. I have raised this issues with my Federal member of Parliament and the Minister for Communications Stephen Conroy without much success. I believe things will only change if we all start writing complaints to our Federal Members of Parliament and the minister in charge Stephen Conroy. keep up the great work with the info on this site.
I remember those McConnon brothers. I wondered what they’d get up to next. Here’s another another article about one of their promotional campaigns in 2004: http://www.dilloninvestigates.com/index_files/Page579.htm
